Christian wordplay and the "defeat" of Satan

It’s the Christian equivalent of “Don’t worry, be happy”, a beacon of hope that shines through even humanity’s most catastrophic moments:

The Black Death - 75 million dead

The Influenza Pandemic - 50 million dead

The Holocaust - 6 million dead

Little more than blips on the celestial radar. Why?

Because “God wins in the end.”

Take heart, dear friends, because although your house may be burning to the ground tonight, joy cometh in the morning!!!

Or next week. Or a few years from now.

Well, someday, anyway.

To walk past an active human tragedy with a certain knowing satisfaction is a trick I hope never to master nor understand.

Wrestling with this passive point of view is exactly what birthed The Hiroshima Dilemma:

It’s 1940 and the United States has the atomic bomb primed and ready to go. Utilizing it will strangle the Holocaust in its infancy, prevent Pearl Harbor, and save tens of millions of lives.

Instead, we watch.

And we wait.

And we repeatedly brag about the triumph that is to come … eventually.

And we do absolutely nothing.
